Building permits in the Township of Admaston/Bromley are administered locally through the Township’s Chief Building and Sewage System Inspector. The published application process is paper-based: permit forms are completed and signed, printed, and returned to the Township office with the required plans and supporting documentation.
Land-use approvals involve a separate planning stream. Admaston/Bromley uses its own zoning and municipal planning processes while also directing applicants to County of Renfrew planning resources for pre-consultation and matters such as land severances.
How the Admaston/Bromley Building Permit Process Works
-
1
Check zoning and planning requirements
Confirm the proposal against Comprehensive Zoning By-law #2026-26. Where a planning or land-use approval is required, the Township directs applicants to the County of Renfrew General Inquiry process for pre-consultation before an official planning application is submitted.
-
2
Prepare the permit package
Complete and sign the applicable building permit form and assemble the plans, site information and other documents required for the proposed work. The Township specifically directs applicants to complete all applicable sections and designer information.
-
3
Submit the printed application
The Township’s Building & Sewage instructions require applications to be printed and returned to the Township office with the applicable documentation and plans. The municipal page does not direct building applicants to a Cloudpermit or CityView submission portal.
-
4
Arrange required inspections
After a permit is issued, inspection notice must be provided to the Building Official at the required stages of construction. Admaston/Bromley’s Building By-law establishes separate notice periods for building work and sewage systems.
Admaston/Bromley administers on-site sewage permits through the same municipal building service. The Township identifies its official as the Chief Building and Sewage System Inspector and publishes a separate sewage permit application alongside its building permit forms.
Plans and Site Information Required by the Township
The Township’s Building By-law requires enough plans, specifications and supporting information for the Building Official to determine compliance with the Building Code Act, the Building Code and applicable law.
- A completed and signed permit application for the proposed construction, demolition or other regulated work
- Two complete sets of plans, specifications and supporting documents as required by the Building By-law
- A site plan showing property dimensions, building locations and setbacks, existing and proposed grades, rights-of-way or easements, and relevant wells, sewage systems and services
- A site plan referenced to a current Ontario Land Surveyor plan of survey unless the Building Official determines that the survey requirement can be waived
- Professional design or general-review documentation where required by the Ontario Building Code
How Local Planning Fits With the Building Permit
Township Building Review
The municipal Building Official reviews the construction or demolition permit application, plans and applicable-law requirements. Building approval does not replace any planning approval that must be resolved before the project can proceed.
Township and County Planning
Admaston/Bromley administers local zoning matters, minor variances through its Committee of Adjustment, and site plan control. The Township also uses County of Renfrew planning resources, including the mandatory General Inquiry pre-consultation form, while consent and severance guidance is provided through the County’s planning system.
Inspection Notice Requirements
The Township’s Building By-law sets specific advance-notice requirements rather than a single notice period for every inspection.
-
Building inspections:
Notice must be provided to the Building Official at least two business days before the required construction stage. -
Sewage system inspections:
The Building By-law requires five days of advance notice. -
Notice format:
The by-law permits written or oral notice, but the notice is not effective until it has been received by the Building Official.
The Township’s municipal by-law index links to an updated 2026 Fees & Charges schedule containing current building and sewage-system fee categories. Current fees should be checked against that published schedule rather than relying on the older fee amounts printed in Schedule A of the 2017 Building By-law.
