Amaranth Building Permit Office
Amaranth
Township of Amaranth
519-496-1434
Orangeville, Ontario
Building permits in the Township of Amaranth are administered by the Township under a contracted Chief Building Official service model with RSM Building Consultants. Amaranth took over administration of building permits for Township properties on January 1, 2025, replacing the previous Dufferin County delivery arrangement.
Building permit applications, permit status updates and inspection requests are handled through Cloudpermit. Zoning and municipal planning matters remain separate Township functions and should be resolved where required before the building permit can proceed.
Amaranth operates its own municipal building permit program but delivers Chief Building Official services through RSM Building Consultants. This contracted model covers permit review, Building Code administration, inspections and enforcement while applications remain Township of Amaranth permits.
How the Amaranth Building Permit Process Works
-
1
Confirm zoning and other approvals
Confirm that the proposed use, building location and dimensions comply with the Township Zoning By-law. Projects involving site plan control, zoning changes, site alteration or other applicable approvals may require those matters to be addressed separately.
-
2
Prepare the permit submission
Prepare the applicable permit forms, construction drawings and supporting documents. The required material depends on the type and scope of work.
-
3
Apply through Cloudpermit
Create or use a Cloudpermit account to submit the building permit application and follow its review status. Permit documents and municipal correspondence can be managed through the online system.
-
4
Request required inspections
After a permit is issued, required building inspections are requested through Cloudpermit as construction reaches the applicable inspection stages.
Permit Submission Requirements
Amaranth identifies several forms and drawing types that may form part of a permit application depending on the project.
- Building permit application and applicable designer information
- Owner authorization when the applicant is not the property owner
- Energy Efficiency Design Summary when applicable
- Commitment to General Review where professional review by an architect or engineer applies
- Building Code Data Matrix for applicable multi-residential, commercial or industrial projects
- Site plan and applicable floor, foundation, framing, roof, section, elevation and building-services drawings
The Township may request additional drawings during review. Amaranth’s site-plan requirements can include property dimensions, setbacks, existing and proposed buildings, grading, parking and access, easements, servicing, septic-system locations and natural features.
Building, Planning and On-Site Sewage
Building Code Review
The contracted building service reviews permit applications for compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other applicable requirements and administers the permit through the Township’s Cloudpermit system.
Zoning and Planning
Planning remains with the Township. Zoning compliance, zoning by-law amendments, site plan approval, consent applications and related land-use matters are handled separately from the technical building permit review.
On-Site Sewage Systems
Amaranth’s current Building Department fee schedule includes on-site sewage system permit categories for new and replacement systems, along with other sewage-system work. Septic information may also form part of the required site plan for a building application.
Requesting Building Inspections
-
Request method:
Inspection requests are submitted through Cloudpermit after the building permit has been issued. -
Advance notice:
The Township’s building permit page requires at least two days’ notice, with the request submitted by 3:00 p.m. -
Virtual schedule:
The Township lists virtual inspections on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Confirmed virtual appointments are provided with a Microsoft Teams meeting link. -
Inspection format:
The Township’s 2025 Building Department review describes a hybrid inspection model, allowing in-person inspections where the construction stage or circumstances require them.
When Additional Site Information May Be Required
Projects affected by flood constraints may require flood-elevation drawings prepared by an Ontario Land Surveyor or Professional Engineer to establish the flood line and demonstrate compliance with zoning requirements. Site alteration involving the import or export of soil can also require separate Township approval and, depending on the property, Conservation Authority permission.
Current Building Permit Fee Schedule
Amaranth adopted an indexed Schedule H for 2026 covering building, demolition, change-of-use, plumbing, mechanical, on-site sewage and other permit categories. The 2026 schedule took effect January 21, 2026 and should be used instead of older fee tables when checking current permit costs.
